How Leaders Can Maximize Resources

The ability to maximize resources is a quality, that when leveraged consistently, will propel individuals and organizations to leap to new levels of success. A huge part of a leader’s role is to maximize resources, and not complain about a lack of them. Look around most organizations, and you will find that those leaders perceived to be struggling, are doing so because they lack the ability to get the most out of resources at their disposal.

Resource Types

If used correctly, resources, when maximized and leveraged to their fullest, can help individuals and organizations achieve their goals. There are three major types of resources available that great leaders and organizations consistently maximize their fullest potential:

  1. People
  2. Technology
  3. Time

Leverage People

One of the most important, and surprisingly overlooked by some resources is other people. Whether it is ideas, knowledge, or the strengths of others, the ability to maximize resources and the collective talents of others is an important skill for everyone. Leaders need to leverage the power of delegation as well as tap into the feedback possibilities available from those who can provide better value. Underutilized talent is wasteful, so maximize your resources by enabling others to act in their areas of strength.

Leverage Technology

It surprises me how many leaders and organizations underutilize the capabilities of tools and software at their disposal. Those who are wanting to be most effective with maximizing resources, leverage the full capabilities of existing tools that they already have access to, saving both time and money. Instead of arming yourself or others on your team with multiple systems, dig deeper into what you might already have available to you already. I guarantee there is existing technology easily within your grasp that has improved functionality that will allow you to work smarter, not harder. Doing so will also reduce having to work with multiple systems too potentially.

Maximize Time

Often referred to as one of the most important resources, time, if utilized well, can improve not only your productivity but also take you to new levels of achievement. Great leaders and organizations understand the value of time and costs associated with managing time appropriately. Time is money. If not spent well, efficiency and productivity are severely hampered. Having a continuous improvement mindset coupled with always striving to understand how your time is being spent will do wonders in terms of maximizing resources. Get the most value out of maximizing your most precious resource, time.
